              Welcome to the Studio Tour.......

I have taken a few pictures of the Selhurst Sound studio, and am pleased to share them with you. The pictures will show the equipment that I use to relay the music and PA to you.

Lets start off with the studio itself.

It is situated to the left of the Croydon Advertiser Family stand, next door to the Police

Control Room, behind the floodlight pylon.

You can see where the studio is situated from the picture on the left. Look to the left of the photo, and it's just behind the side of the stand and the floodlight pylon. As you will see shortly, it is not in the best of positions regarding views of the pitch, but because of all the wiring, sighting of amplifiers etc, it is the best we can do at the moment.

Thanks to RDSdaEAGLE for the foto!

Oval Callout: Hi!

The Studio

This is a photo of the studio.

You can see some of the equipment that I use on match days. I will explain that  in a little more detail later.

The one piece of vital equipment that you CAN'T see is........... the KETTLE!!! Mainly because two lovely people by the name of Colleen and Derek can be found bringing me a cup of coffee prior to kick off on match days. Bless You!!

Well, this is the view that I have from the studio window. Not ideal I know, but I'm sure that as soon as an alternative location becomes available, then the studio will be moved!

You will notice that I cannot see the Whitehorse goal at all! I have to relate all announcements based on the feed I receive on the monitor, and/or the Palace Radio 1278am commentary.

One problem that I do have is that the TV monitor is not allowed to show certain camera shots. These include controversial moments in play, dugout shots and......substitutions! Hence the need for confirmation of any changes, normally via the commentary.

The club have installed a 100V line PA system, based on TOA's proprietary stadium speakers - capable of relaying the sound  to all corners of the ground

The installation company were asked to provide emergency paging facilities and extend the music playback capabilities into the four stands. As the nucleus of the system they chose TOA's SX-1000 Smart Matrix Control System, using two SX-1200 mics.

Featuring emergency audio signal channels, the SX-1000 is ideal for both routing of simultaneous audio channels as well as speaker line failure detection circuitry and logging. It can be configured as a 64-audio input/128-audio output device, with 128 x 128 control inputs. The 16 audio busses enable 16 simultaneous processing of up to 16 audio signals, while the software-driven operation makes complicated wiring set-ups unnecessary.

The new system not only provides general PA announcements but also emergency.

Selhurst Park has been designed as a multi-zone system. The music from the large screen (or separate video feeds) is relayed to the four terrace zones and one concourse zone (the perimeter walkway leading to the stands).

 50 TOA CS64PW (6W) weather-resistant wide-range paging
speakers have been deployed in the concourse areas, while the terrace speakers consist of a combination of two-way, full-range MS1's (in the small stands) and the new ES-0871's in the long stands.

In this application, the ES-0871's are powered by a combination of VP-1240B and VP-1120B amplifiers, while the MS1's are driven by TOA's DPA-2000 amplifiers.

In addition, four external zones address spectators as they approach the ground, while three further zones are dedicated to the private boxes and hospitality areas. Using the control inputs of the SX-1200 all sources are switchable to any of the zones.

In the new Holmesdale Bar, five F121CM TOA Uniform Directivity Ceiling Speakers provide high sound quality and a much wider dispersion angle than standard ceiling speakers.

Here you can see the actual equipment that I use on a matchday.

In the centre is a 6 channel Citronic mixer that has master and independent volume controls. Bear in mind that the volume faders only control the overall volume and not the independent volume levels in each of the stands. I have no control over this as it is digitally set via a computer on the mainframe amplification system.

The system has dual CD players and two mike inputs, one for the studio and one for the radio mike. There is a channel dedicated to the big screen that is linked to the Palace TV studios for as and when audio is required.

To the left is a tape player, not generally used, and purched on that is a cartridge machine that i use to play 'Glad All Over' when the teams come out.

To the right you can see the monitor that I watch the action on, though the picture would normally be 'in vision' so of considerably smaller size.

Beneath the TV is a Multi Instrumental Live Keypad Control Relay Audible Tuned Emulator.....

....or 'm.i.l.k.c.r.a.t.e' for short!
